Kirsten Hassenfeld's Blueware
A couple of years ago, I posted about an amazing paper installation by Kirsten Hassenfeld I saw in New York; it was an elaborate temple made entirely from white paper. Her latest work uses the same material but has a completely different look. Blueware references blue and white ceramics, used everywhere from Delft to Morocco, and is as solid as Offering was ethereal. I'm amazed at the effects she can get from paper! DIY Silly Bands
One of the must-stop spots at last weekend's DIY Street Fair in Ferndale, Mich., was i3 Detroit's DIY Silly Band Station. Some 500 bracelets were made by using 10:1 tin-based silicone. (As you'll see in the video below, this was definitely an adult-driven activity due to the components used.) Wire shapes were formed, heated up by way of a propane torch, and pressed in home foam insulation squares. Children selected their shapes and the colors they wanted. A squeezey bottle of silicone filled the shape well and packaging tape was used to keep the silicone secure as it set for 24 hours. To remove, the tape was gently peeled back and the bracelet carefully pulled out. I just peeked at mine last night and it's awesome. Check out these photos and video from the weekend.Read the Full Story » | More on CRAFT » | Comments » | Read more articles in Kids | Digg this! blog.craftzine.com |
