Maker Faire CRAFT Demo Profile: Danielle From Etsy
World Maker Faire New York is this weekend, and we've put together a full schedule for of awesome demos for both days at the CRAFT booth. Each day this week, we'll profile one of the folks who will be presenting. Be sure to mark your schedule and head to the CRAFT booth for all the fun! Presenter: Danielle Maveal from EtsyProject: Embroidered CardDay/Time: Sunday at 5 PMTell us about what you'll be demonstrating at the CRAFT booth at Maker Faire:I'm excited to share my embroidered card project - a great project for a range of skill levels. I'll bring along templates for those who might lack drawing-on-the-spot skills, but feel free to come up with your own design! How did you get started with crafting? I've been piecing things together since I could hold a fat crayon. I really became involved with the craft community after I graduated my Jewelry Arts degree and was trying to make it on my own as a goldsmith. I found Etsy.com and was inspired by giving nature of the community. I must say that when I started working at Etsy, over three years ago, I was exposed to such a variety of crafts and techniques that my repertoire is now world-class. Thank you Etsy Craft Night! What are your main sources of inspiration?I'm inspired by anything that makes me laugh, art in unexpected locations, zines and graphic novels, doodles during meetings and of course, puppies. There's so much tension in the world, I seem to lean towards the delightfully (and cleverly) uncomplicated. What new idea (in or outside of your field) has excited you most recently?I love how technology can connect people who might not have known each other. I'm really excited about websites and apps that support this, like Meetup.com, Foursquare, (and Etsy of course) but even goofy iPhone games like Words with Friends or QRANK. I was just heard about a new "social transit" app called Weeels, where you can find people near you to share cabs with. Fancy! I can't wait to see where else this might lead us. Oh, and Tim and Eric 2010 Tour and Chrimbus special, probably not an idea, but I'm very excited about it. What is your motto?"If you think you're too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito." ~Betty ReeseI'm 5 feet tall, so this seems to fit me quite well.Read the Full Story » | More on CRAFT » | Comments » | Read more articles in Maker Faire | Digg this! blog.craftzine.com |
