How-To: Create an Etsy Banner
Sometimes crafting is just the beginning. The urge to create is the spark, then comes the making of objects- lots and lots of crafty objects. For many, the natural next step is sharing on the internet. Yet, for those inclined to knit, sew, or sculpt, diving into the world of web design can be intimidating. Luckily there are powerful tools that even a novice can use to translate their creative vision into the brightly lit pixels on a computer monitor. I used my Wacom Tablet and Adobe Illustrator to create an Etsy banner, and you can too! These steps can easily apply to any graphic you'd like to make for the web, just plug in your own dimensions and you are good to go. Oh, and as soon as you are done, I'd say, try to get off Etsy and get back to work!Read the Full Story » | More on CRAFT » | Comments » | Read more articles in CRAFT Projects | Digg this! blog.craftzine.com |
Experimenting With Shibori
A couple of years ago, I took an amazing surface design class with Kathleen McTee here in Austin. Learning the different methods for creating fabric was incredibly fun, and unveiling each new creation was magical. I loved seeing this post from Honestly ... WTF on her experimentation with Shibori. She chronicles the various methods she tried, and the pictures are fantastic. Truly inspirational! To see the resulting garments and fabric, check out the full post over on Honestly ... WTF. Max to The Moon
Last night, I stumbled upon what has quickly become one of my very favorite Tumblr blogs. Max to the Moon is the "official blog of Max's Moon Mission." Max is an "amateur astronaut" and Max to the Moon chronicles his fictional space adventure to the moon and back. While the blog first appealed to my space geek side, I delighted in finding lots of examples of crafty fun as well. First up is Max's mission patch, a charming hand-stitched image that hearkens back to the simplicity of early Gemini and Apollo mission patches. Next is Max's spacecraft, what appears to be a small pop-up tent covered in foil and stocked with an awesome hand-drawn control panel (I know what I'm going to make with my kids this weekend ...). Finally, Max's illustrations and videos chronicling his adventures look like they were great fun to make. In the spacewalk video, Max's parents hold him up to simulate weightlessness as Max makes repairs to his ship. The launch sequence video is particularly brilliant in its execution. I love the whimsy of Max to the Moon, and based on how much fun it is to read, I can only imagine the how much fun the creative process behind it must have been.
