Book Review + Giveaway: Knitting Mochimochi
From squirrels on wheels to pigs with wigs the whimsical knit toy world of crafter Anna Hrachovec of Mochimochi Land comes together in her new book, Knitting Mochimochi. As a frequent contributer to CRAFT, I've always enjoyed the cute knit toys Anna creates. She blows my mind even more with this book where 20 new patterns that are "super-cute strange designs" are featured. Where else in a book would you find "cute polluters" I ask you? This book is a perfect companion for the summer knitter as you could finish a cute project in no time (beach knitting!) and hand it off right away for a child or child-at-heart to enjoy. I particularly like the section towards the end of the book where Anna goes through the basic steps on how to design your own knitted toy. A great book for anyone who wants to knit the cutest little toys!Nerd alert! Knit up this pocket protector marsupial to keep your labcoat pens company.More photos of some of my favorite projects, an interview with Anna Hrachovec, and info on how to win a free copy of Knitting Mochimochi in our giveaway after the jump!Read the Full Story » | More on CRAFT » | blog.craftzine.com |
How To: Make a Puffer Fish from a Barf Bag
a href="http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/craft_summer_camp/">I just flew in from Detroit. My trip went like this: Oakland>JFK, then a week later, La Guardia>Detroit, then a week after that, Detroit>LAX>Santa Rosa. Phew! I have never flown that much in just in two weeks, and since it's the heart of summer vacation, I was very surprised to see so many children on every flight. There were even 10 kids on the red-eye I took! So, since I'm destroyed by jet lag, inspired by airplanes, and suddenly understand the need for great entertainment for children on a flight, I'm heading back into the archives for this Barf Bag Puffer Fish Puppet.Read the Full Story » | More on CRAFT » | Comments » | Read more articles in CRAFT Projects | Digg this! blog.craftzine.com |

Crochet Owl Pellet
After Shawn's post about the Crafts Department Owl Pellet how-to on Wednesday, we heard from reader, Lisa Bebee Futuristicky who shared an awesome crochet owl pellet she created for her father a few years ago. She even included tiny crochet bones to pack inside! How often do you get the chance to crochet a tiny bird skull? Not nearly often enough, if you ask me. I made that for my dad, because he likes outdoorsy stuff like owl puke. I thought it would be nice for him to have a crafty toy that resembled something an owl might vomit up. Awesome!
